People aren't petty, are they?....

....They don't devote their precious lives to scoring points and winning trivial disputes, and making others feel incompetent, do they? Isn't it true that they appreciate the importance of every moment, recognise how lucky they are to be alive and dedicate their time to feeling thankful and to bringing out the best in one another. Isn't it?

Well, it would be nice to think so, wouldn't it? And you know what? Even if that's not what other people do, people like us really ought to at least try, ought we not? Set the right example today.

Pain is never permanent  (St Teresa of Avila)

When people feel vulnerable....

....they put up barriers. They try to hide their own softness by feigning strength. This only increases their vulnerability! When we try to be tough, we become brittle. When we deny the truth to others, we also tend to deny it from ourselves. Then, we grow confused.

For, if we cannot call upon the most sensitive side of our own nature, we cannot access the wisdom we need.

The gift is not how much you ARE loved, the gift is how much you are ABLE TO love.

Some say that money makes....

....the world go round. Others feel equally sure that it is love. Scientists, though, say that the Earth rotates due to a series of gravitational forces. And that it will continue to do so regardless of how much cash or emotion there is in the world.

We may never know the truth. But this much at least we do know; without love, the world can turn as much as it wants to - but it will mean very little to any of us.

Doubt is a pain that is too lonely to know that faith is its twin brother.   (Kahlil Gibran)

I hope you can cope with....

.....a 'they say' moment this early in a new week -
They say, 'You live and learn.' You do indeed. We all do. But we do not all necessarily do it in this order. The trouble with doing it the other way round is that by the time you have finished doing all that learning, you are not in much of a mood to enjoy a whole lot of living. Then again, when you do the living bit first, the learning part can become even more difficult.

Sometimes, though, we are fortunate. We get a chance to learn and live simultaneously.

The veil of money has never been about how much money you have
but about how much money has you.

Our passions are not....

....always appropriate. We pour our hearts into our preoccupations - our opinions, our beliefs, our passing fascinations. We get heated and excited about issues of intellect whilst remaining strangely ambivalent about genuine matters of the heart. We attribute the outcome of arguments with life or death significance. Drunk on the heavy liquor of a petty perspective, we alienate ourselves from the rest of the human race.

Keep the flame of your faith but don't use this to ignite an unnecessary fire of feud.

The only true wisdom is knowing you know nothing  (Socrates)
