....people were completely convinced that the world was flat, and that the Sun went round the Earth. (Come to think of it, I suspect I know a few people who still believe this!!) To argue otherwise was to risk the wrath of the authorities. It took generations for a conventional belief to change. Now, we are obliged to rethink our old ideas almost every time we open a newspaper. Subconsciously, though, we yearn for the stability of what we used to feel sure of.
There are times when we are urged to adapt old ideas. That's unnerving, but usually very beneficial.
Many people look forward to the new year for a new start on old habits
